I saw the EE version of FOTR on the big screen and it was so much better than the theatrical release. The flow of the film was smoother and the additional scenes would certainly have been helpful to those unfamiliar with the book and a delight to those of us who missed such scenes as the presentation of Galadriel"s gifts to the fellowship. Not to say that the theatrical release wasn"t fantastic; I saw it 30+ times. I am just so glad that PJ and New Line decided to release the EE"s on the big screen to prep us for ROTK. I am looking forward to seeing the EE of TTT next week. I hope at some point PJ and New Line will screen the EE of ROTK after they make their bundle on the theatrical release and DVDs.

This amazing "motion picture" I feel this phrase, as opposed to "film" is "t it just feel bigger? requires more than one or two viewings to fully absorb the magnitude of its theatrical merit. One can not even concieve of the huge task Jackson"s took upon himself some 6 years ago, but the end result is well worth conception. While I have read its prequel, The Hobbit, I have not read TLOTR, and so am fully aquainted only with the prior story of Bilbo, not Frodo. Without spoiling the film for any, let me comment that the film contains amazing landscapes, beautiful music, comprehensive plots, mindboggling special effects, and most importantly, impeccable acting. Both McKellan and Wood give INCREDIBLE performances, not to mention Mortenson, who was fantastic as Aragorn. Several seens were beyond breathtaking, and a perfect mix of fast paced action as well as touching moments between characters keeps the audience both entertained and emotionally involved (one scene in particular from Frodo brought tears from to orchestration for composing such soulful melody. After sitting through 2 hrs. and 45 min, I feel the only appropriate response is "wow. Wow. I can foresee some might be disappointed in the lack of resolution in the film. Unlike trilogies before it (Star Wars, Godfather) this film ends with much up in the air, leaving closure-obsessed moviegoers somewhat wanting. This, however, has little to do with the film, but more to do with the novel and the MONUMENTAL task which converting to the screen has been.
Leaving the theatre I was overcome with intense sadness, knowing that I must wait for an entire year to see the next installment. However, The Fellowship of the Ring is fantastic on its own merit, and will be one film I"ll watch repeatedly until the next film is released. 10/10.
